This December, after visiting Colombia, the COMUNIDAD project will begin its mission in Chile to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sustainable development through advanced COPERNICUS services. This journey marks a critical step in strengthening ties across continents, using high-resolution Earth Observation data, IoT, and dynamic decision tools aimed at empowering local communities. COMUNIDAD’s pilot regions in Chile will be the focal point for these innovations, directly impacting farm operations, forest management, and regional policy-making.
In Chile, the delegation will begin in Santiago, led by FIA and the Aysén University, with the Czech Ambassador and leaders in Chile’s agriculture and technology sectors, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Universidad de Chile’s Center for Mathematical Modeling. The agenda then takes us south to the Aysén Region, in the heart of Chilean Patagonia, an ecologically diverse area perfect for pioneering COPERNICUS-based environmental solutions. In Coyhaique, stakeholders will join the team for discussions with local authorities, agriculture and forestry representatives, and the University of Aysén to explore the role of snow cover estimation in managing local ecosystems and addressing regional challenges like native forest restoration and water resource management.
This journey is not only about implementing technology but also about building lasting partnerships to drive impactful, locally rooted solutions. The visit will conclude with a field trip to Cerro Castillo and Ñirehuao, assessing the real-time impacts on agriculture and forestry—relevant to identifying gaps and challenges in these remote areas. This ambitious itinerary sets the stage for a connected future where actionable insights foster sustainable practices across Latin America.
