Baltic Open Solutions Center (BOSC) is a Latvian SME founded in 2007 as a spin-off from a research and development company. Serving both public and private sectors, BOSC specializes in environmental, agricultural, and public service solutions, including GIS and open-source application development, hardware prototyping, remote sensing and open data processing, as well as Web-based online learning tools and mobile app development. With over 20 years of experience in EU projects and cross-border initiatives, BOSC brings extensive expertise to its endeavours. As a proud member of the Plan4All association, BOSC continues to drive innovation and collaboration in its field.

Team Bio:

In the COMUNIDAD project, the Baltic Open Solutions Center (BOSC) team plays a pivotal role, primarily focusing on the technical management of various aspects throughout the project. As the project's technical manager, BOSC coordinates the design and development of the architecture (leading WP2 System architecture design and development) and COMUNIDAD platform across multiple work packages, ensuring alignment with pilot requirements and project objectives. This includes facilitating the development of detailed work package implementation plans, conducting monthly technical team meetings to track progress, as well as coordinating and being responsible for several deliverables related to project management issues.

In addition to technical management, BOSC is also responsible for organizing training events and workshops within the project. This includes arranging introduction workshops and regional training events every 6 months in CELAC countries and coordinating hackathons focused on platform utilization and application development.

Overall, BOSC's involvement in the COMUNIDAD project is crucial to its success, as the organization drives technical management, organizes training events, leads infrastructure definition efforts, and significantly contributes to the project management, ensuring the project's objectives are met efficiently and effectively.

The BOSC team within the COMUNIDAD project consists of Ing. Michal Kepka, PhD, Ing. Zbyněk Křivánek, RNDr. Zuzana Boukalová, and Markéta Kollerová.

Ing. Michal Kepka, PhD

Ing. Michal Kepka, PhD, a renowned expert in GIS, earned his Doctorate in Geomatics from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czech Republic, in 2018. His expertise lies in the field of geomatics, encompassing GIS, spatial data, data modelling, spatial database design and development, as well as the development of Java applications and web map applications. Michal serves as a leader within BOSC, guiding and directing the technical endeavours of the team. With a rich background in European projects such as plan4business, SDI4Apps, DataBio, AFarCloud, FATIMA, SmartAgriHubs, PoliRural, and Sieusoil, among others, Michal brings extensive project experience to his role as the main Technical Manager of the COMUNIDAD project. His profound knowledge and hands-on experience in geomatics and related technologies ensure effective management and implementation of technical aspects within the COMUNIDAD project.

Ing. Zbyněk Křivánek

Ing. Zbyněk Křivánek, a distinguished professional with a background in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Electricity, brings extensive expertise in project management of research projects to the COMUNIDAD initiative. With key qualifications in financial project management and communication, Zbyněk serves as the Financial Manager of the COMUNIDAD project, overseeing various financial aspects and ensuring efficient resource allocation. His vast experience includes participation in numerous projects as both a project manager and senior researcher, such as Wirelessinfo, Premathmod, EMIRES, REGEO, Rural Wins, Armonia, a Bard, EPRI Start, Ami@netfood, AMI4For, Voice, Naturnet Redime, Mobildat, SpravaDat, Navlog, c@r, Humboldt, WINSOC, and studies for DG AGRI Broadband in Rural Development. Zbyněk's studies encompass groundwater contaminant studies, groundwater monitoring programs, hydrochemical analyses, hydrogeological modelling, and methods in hydrogeology. His extensive experience in communications and data transmission, information technology, and remote sensing further enriches the COMUNIDAD project, ensuring its success at both national and European levels.

RNDr. Zuzana Boukalová

RNDr. Zuzana Boukalová brings over 35 years of extensive experience in applied research in water resources engineering, hydrogeology, flood risk management, groundwater vulnerability, and pollution control. Her recent research interests focus on areas such as artificial infiltration, impacts of drainage and land-use, precise farming, Flood Risk, Integrated Water Resources Management, and emerging pollutants. Zuzana has served as the supervising expert for the Czech Ministry of Environment on matters concerning old ecological loads and decontamination activities, as well as the expert for the Czech Ministry of Agriculture on River Basin Management Plans and the implementation of FLOODsite IP results in the Czech Republic. From 2005 to 2009, Zuzana held the position of Member of the Sounding Board of Commissioner Janez Potocnik for FP7 simplification, with a specific focus on Latin America. She has successfully coordinated numerous international projects, including 8 EUREKA projects (eGMS, GEMSTONE, STORAGE, ALICE, STAMFOR, FORMTES, BIORESET, AgriClima) and 3 projects for EEA Grants (AQUARIUS, LaPlant, SMART WATER). Additionally, she has collaborated on research projects under various EU Framework Programmes, including FP5 (TRANSCAT, IRON CURTAIN, IMPACT), FP6 (BRAHMATWINN, ARMONIA, FloodSite), FP7 (FLOODsite, ENSOCIO-LAC, GENESIS), and H2020 (FATIMA, FREEWAT, EULAC Focus) as well as HE (DALIA, EcoAdvance). Currently, she is coordinating the collaboration between Europe and Latin America in the COMUNIDAD project.

Markéta Kollerová

Markéta Kollerová is a dedicated professional with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Philology from the University of South Bohemia and currently pursuing a Master's degree in Regional Development at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Czech University of Life Sciences. In the BOSC team, she is responsible for international cooperation and communication, drawing on her experience as a foreign mission clerk. Within the COMUNIDAD project, she is actively involved in the communication and support of management, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration among project stakeholders. Skilled in facilitating communication and cooperation across diverse teams and regions, with a passion for exploring and comparing living experiences across different countries and regions. Possesses excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in project management and coordination.
